nota e.V. is an artist and coder collective that facilitates and shapes experimental forms of artistic exchange in the digital space. Together, the members develop the open-source software nota, a montage tool for various media that serves as a digital rehearsal space where users can arrange and manipulate media fragments with user scripts. The goal is to create a sustainable structure in which knowledge and hierarchies can be questioned, deconstructed, and rearranged as diversely as the media fragments in nota's immense montage space. The community is developing a new type of open-source text that can be read by a group of coders and non-coders. In recent years, the nota e.V. has collaborated with documenta15 on the Archive of Encounters, among other projects. Kampnagel Hamburg invited the community to participate in the Diversify the Code festival with the project Magic Code Circle.

Nikola Lutz first encountered nota in 2020 at a Stuttgart Filmwinter event. Since then, nota has become an integral part of her artistic practice. Lutz has published two nota spaces, yonx_madmap and yonx_madmap_berlin, as standalone artworks and has published several artistic archives in nota. She also uses nota for process design and as a resource for live performances. Nikola Lutz has been an active member of the nota community since 2021. On her initiative, the open call notaᴺear was launched in 2022, in which she served as a curator and juror. As part of this project, nota underwent further technical development in the area of sound. In 2022 and 2023, the nota community carried out the structural development projects notanet and notacore with funding from the Fonds Darstellender Künste (Performing Arts Fund). Nikola Lutz played a key role in conceiving and implementing these projects. She has held workshops on nota at UNNE (Resistencia, Argentina), UNTREF (Buenos Aires, Argentina), and UNIRIO (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). She has also given presentations and performances using nota at the documenta archiv in Kassel, Kampnagel in Hamburg, Filmwinter in Stuttgart, CASo (Buenos Aires), and as an artist-in-residence at the MONTE Artist Residency in Chaco, Argentina.
