remote
The Duo YonX was founded in 2018 by Nikola Lutz, Stuttgart, and César Bernal, Valparaíso, and initially saw itself as an ensemble of two improvising musicians. With the project remote, the ensemble presents its first video work. remote I was created under the conditions of the pandemic as an artistic strategy to be able to continue acting as an ensemble over the distance. Nikola first generated a collaged musical composition from film material produced in Chile with musical improvisations by César. In the second step, with the help of a Max Patch programmed by Chi Him Chik, she creates a video work in which she also films herself while generating the live video. The screen becomes both a point of contact and a dividing surface, addressing the need for contact of an improviser ensemble thwarted by the pandemic, but at the same time breaking new ground in digital production and performance.
