Biotope of Sound
To celebrate its 10^(th) anniversary, SKAM e.V. invites you to the Biotope of Sound festival on 12 and 13 July 2025.
Marienplatz and the surrounding area in southern Stuttgart will be transformed into a vibrant sound biotope, with 18 new and experimental music projects, performances, installations, interactive formats and an exhibition providing spaces for encounters, nature and urban sound. The festival sees itself as an open laboratory for anyone curious about new perspectives.

In a discursive-musical improvisation, Christian Grüny and Nikola Lutz perform a saxophone and voice/speech duet. They relate their live sounds to the normally imperceptible electromagnetic vibrations of Marienplatz, which have been transformed into audible frequencies. Through this process, they reveal a hidden dimension of the square.

In the Low End Biotope, a vibrating sound ecosystem emerges from the low frequencies of material recorded on site. The inhabitants of the Low End Biotope nurture the audio material by watering it with their improvisations and allowing it to grow. The two bass-emphasised sound bodies strike their low-frequency roots into the concrete of Marienplatz, causing it to vibrate. Sound leaves, branches and blossoms grow from the diffuse rumbling. The first frequency bushes emerge in the improvisations and spread beyond Marienplatz into infinite acoustic expanses.
